I have formed some good opinions of the youngsters posting here. If I was in a position to do, would offer a job based this experience.

I have had to sack one and throw his belongings into the street for him to collect for being awful to the staff, patients and a local GP (the PDA sued me for his money and cancelled bookings but backed down when they became aware of the facts) and I have had to put one in a taxi as he got so drunk during his lunch break that he fell on the floor and no-one could lift him up. Another "lady" who came in an hour late, drunk and threatened to sue us for complaining.

I have also employed locums who subsequently stole drugs and/or money and one beauty who sat in the toilet all day with a collection of girlie magazines.

This is not a new phenomenon. The first locum I ever encountered (in 1977) told everyone that their medication interacted with alcohol and justified it on the grounds "do they want to get better on not?"

So crap locums are not a new phenomenon
Point taken. Just one question, however...who hired these people?

    MOI!

I think you misunderstand me. The above incidents occurred over a very long time. I posted my reply in response to the comments of BobD who started by saying "I dispair at the quality of the younger members of our profession"

I actually think that there are indeed some "bad 'uns" around but my experience is that a lot of them are excellent. I also mentioned my catalogue of woe to demonstrate that there have always been "bad apples". Again it isn't a new phenomenon.

I also freely accept that proprietor pharmacists are not and frequently never have been, immune to criticism. We all do good work and also occasionally screw up. However, when are the majority ever judged by the standards of the best and how often do we prefer to judge by the standards of the worst?

As for you BobD, if you are who I think you are you are NOT old!!!

Have to smile considering the history of the pharmacy I worked at today.

Well sir my honesty is suspect....? Do go on, I can't see how you could discern that from my contributions on this thread but I can't wait to hear how I am wrong.

Please also pay a little more than lip service to punctuation as it is an aid to understanding what the words are intended to mean.

    I'd hate to misinterpret you!

I am honoured that your jibe is your first ever post on this site (under the name of Neville anyway).

Looking at the post dates I think this is a troll - a post gap from May to September?????

I will boot him, as I am back from my cruise and feel ruthless in a way - must be the thought of going back to work tomorrow.

    Re: locum vs employee

    Well......

I went on the Oriana with P@O for a med cruise. It was great really. We went to Monaco, Majorca, Rome, La Spezia (for Piza/florence), Gibralter, Sardinia and Barcelona! Not in that order!

It was really nice weather, the food was great and I'd recommend it to anyone. We even had a celeb share our table with us - a retired football player who was there to give a talk about his playing days - all very interesting!
