Re: Huge moan about job adverts

NHS job adverts can be a nightmare. My daughter is a senior hospital tech and she told me that when a vacancy came up she told her boss to make sure they only advertised for people within a fairly local area for the job which was an assistant's post (bottom of the ladder, no particular qualifications needed). There was some sort of cock-up with the advert and this local area only requirement got left off. She said that they had hundreds of applications from all across the country with everyone from school leavers to graduates applying and it took ages to weed it all down to the most suitable people for the job

I know mistakes get made and I understand that but this kind of mistreatment is soul destroying for the applicants. On my original application for the first job I attached a comprehensive and honest CV detailing all my experiences. If they'd bothered to read my CV then they would have seen that I wasn't experienced enough for the job and they should've chucked out my application at the paper sift stage. So not only did they advertise the job wrongly, they didn't even bother looking at CV's. Job hunters really put a lot of time and care into their applications (well, some of us do) and to be invited for interview means I put a huge amount of time and effort into preparing. I usually buy a new shirt and if it's very important, i'll even stump up for a new suit. All of which I did for this "job interview".......then you have the travel expenses etc. I have sent my complaint letter to the person I was told to complain to along with my claim for expenses reimbursement. We'll see what happens.....probably nothing.......If there are any employers out there who are maybe reading any of my moans, if you are going to employ a new person, please please think about your recruitment process. And think about the prospective candidates some of whom will have put their heart and souls into their applications and care very much about the job.

Hmm, I wouldn't really describe your first experience as misleading on the part of the employers, I'd more describe it as a complete lie on the part of the employers. That is, what they wrote was pretty much the complete opposite of the truth. It would be like advertising for a newly qualified relief pharmacist only for them to tell you at interview they're looking for a new area manager!

"Hey, want to come do your pre-reg with us? Well all you need is a PhD in a pharmacy related discipline, to be a FRPharmS and to have at least 10 years experience in hospital, community and primary care (other areas a bonus)."
