Do it like this and do it like that

If you work for someone else especially if they are training you then you have a right to expect some form of consistency.

For example one manager says 'you need to be more confident', but the next manager says 'your problem is you are overconfident'

One manager says 'Your problem is you think you are better than everyone else' and the next manager says 'You need to think of yourself as up there (with hand gestures) and everyone else down there. You need to think the world revolves around you'

One manager says 'You need to work faster people are waiting' and then the same manager says 'You need to pay more attention to what your are doing'

One manager says 'Stop. You can do two things at once, save time' and then the same manager says 'stop. do one thing at a time otherwise you can make mistakes'

One manager says 'You need to show some responsibilty' and then the same manager neglects his own responsibilties towards you.

This kind of contradictory behaviour from so called educated, responsible people of good character is a complete an utter joke.

Just what most of us have to suffer I am afraid. one boss supposedly finding some misdemeanour on my part:'you are a senior manager and should know better'. Same boss at pay rise time: 'Only senior people will get any raise this year'.

They want you to be like them and they are different from each other.

Take note of both opinions and make your own decision there's a balance to be made.

You've made an amazing discovery.... people are different

In this case, I'd not be surprised if they are also different genders?

As Leftarm says, listen, but make up your own mind.

In the meantime, it can make for an easier life if you can adapt your behaviour to the manager who's there.....

    Personal opinions are always difficult.
As proved on this forum - Ask two pharmacists a question - get 3 different answers...

    You guys dont understand!

I have exagerrate a little, most of the time it has been the same person saying the contradicting statements/ideas/philosophy/work practice.

And no you cant listen and make up your own mind, because its being said by the tutor. So if you dont listen, even if you know its wrong/contradictory to what they said before they changed their strategy, then you get told off.

Oh, I think you'll find we (or at least I!) do understand.

As it's (presumably) pre-reg, I'd mostly say yessir nosir until I'd passed. It's only a year, after all. Getting told off is bearable when you know it's not forever.

I've given up saying my current boss moves the goalposts. Now he keeps changing games, instead.

My pre-reg tutor kept giving me different jobs all the time; eventually I burst and said "you've given me this, this, this, this and this to do! I can't do it all!" He said "I know what I've asked you to do, so if I ask you to do something else, that must be more important." So from that moment on, if he asked me to do something, I would just drop whatever I was doing exactly where I was and start the new thing. I was fired 3 times by the boss's wife as well... all good fun....
