    staffing levels

    Hi

After hitting most of our targets (not murs!) because most of the locums we get, cannot do them, we have a manager who has now been split between two branches, lost a saturday assistant, lost a full timer and are being told we are overstaffed!, we have not full timers left...

Whoever at the top is working out these calculations cannot add up! yes we are in a recession but without the staff we soon won't be able to legally open the doors! Lets hope nobody goes on holiday or is off sick or this is likely to come true.

    Here's to another fun week

Oh the person at the top can do his sums alright, he/she knows exactly how much they are saving on staffing wages by telling you the shop is "overstaffed".

Perhaps if the same person had to work at the coal face, like you and I, their attitude maybe different.
It sickens me to the pit of my stomach that people sitting in air conditioned offices, decide on the conditions under which you must work, but yet the Pharmacist is totally responsible for any errors that occur.

... as long as theft from the shop is kept within target as well.

I wish!! Our shop has started opening until 8pm every evening (except Sunday) and this is permanently, not just until Christmas. They havent taken on any new staff, just stretched out the existing staff, to the point that there is one Pharmacist, one Dispenser, one person on the ground salesfloor and one on the first salesfloor, and a duty manager, which for a shop our size, is barmy. Whilst not many of our customers seem to realise we are open, our non-paying customers have cottoned on very quickly! They loose more in theft than we make by being open, and yet the powers that be are still adament it is neccessary!!! Only thing is though, that if you have 2 members of the store team working late, then they need to get an agency security guard to make sure that the staff don't do anything untoward!

Believe me - experienced pharmacy staff are hard to find.
Perhaps this company may soon be looking for another one?

However, inexperienced staff are easy to find - and cheaper.

Now... you know that, and I know that, but it seems to evade those who set both the staffing and targets.

Also, lots of places there's a monopoly (even if the name over the door is different) so same service down the road. And even where there's not a monopoly, there's 2 or 3 multiples all running to the same ideas

Monopoly operates in most Cambridgeshire villages. One branch beside the surgery, another in the high street is the norm.
Allen Lloyd started this when thought a competitor might purchase a retirement sale.
