    Thumbs down just depressing!

I have sat for about 10 minutes, reading through posts and I have never felt so helpless!
I understand some of you may find this a place to pent your stress from your day but why is everything so negative!! At the moment it makes me feel like there no point in going to Uni! Most complain so much about pharmacy but yet never say how it could be better!! What is a better degree to take?
    Please tell me!

I appreciate I don't know much about pharmacy practise at the moment, but do any of you know how off putting it is to try to use this forum as a place to learn more about the career I used to aspire to???

    Re: just depressing!

Every job i've ever had has had it's fair share of negativity and that was just the good places I worked at.
There is a lot of change and movement within our industry at the moment and with that usually negative stuff comes along too. The people who are writing the feelings down are doing it to get it of their chests and to avoid an ulcer later on in life.

But the problem with the "World of Work" is that it can be a real crappy place to be. We can't and should not sugar coat these things. Absolute honesty is the way. Yes, it can make you think if you are reading many posts moaning about this and that but this is life......Life is hard work.....Life throws big bags of poo at you for no real reason only that it can. There is no perfect job out there but the one you want to have a go at this year. Get used to reading these things as you will probably be joining in very soon.........

Well, you get to read relevant things in relevant threads. As the heading for this thread goes you are expected to write in or express all the moans and groans in your day to day life. You can't generalise about a forum site or a profession based on some threads which are meant to be negetive.

Why not visit threads that give out lot of information about good practices in Phatmacy Profession. There are lot of geniusus and well experienced people who had started their Pharmacy Practice may be even before you were born. If you have any questions just ask and someone will give a better advice.

Like the coin, everything has two sides to it. You choose which side you prefer and you will get the same in return.

IMHO Pharmacy is the best profession anyone can ask for. It has all the elements of life and I enjoy it this way. Too much good things can sometimes kill you (eg. too much sugar = DIABETES)

    Welcome to the real world

Thing is that the way people function. They tend to talk about bad things, because they need to let it out. They don't have the same need to vent when all is well.

TBH though you can't just imagine everything is going to be all rosy, maybe it's a good idea for you to know what the problems are so that you can make and informed choice. Maybe it is off-putting, but believe me, you need to know about it.

That will help you make a wise choice when the larger companies approach you and promise you the moon, before you realise that it's not quite what they told you it would be like. Obviously that's not applicable if you'd rather work in a hospital or be a locum, where things can be a bit different, but I wouldn't know as I don't really see this aspect of pharmacy work.

I wouldnt worry its natural for people to release their stress on things like this. Ask your parents what they think of their jobs or anyone for that matter. However just remember you have a good degree and future that provides so many different oppurtunities. Many others dont. You could be working a community pharmacy one year then travelling the world working for the economics department of a pharmaceutical department. A degree should not be a limit in life but something that opens doors for you. BUT ! only you can walk through them.

I for one cant wait to see where my career takes me and the positive impact i can make in this world using the pharmaceutical knowledge pharmacy will provide me.

    Re: just depressing!

When you start a new job it is exciting and eventually it becomes boring...then you get depressed...or you may be a locum going from pharmacy to pharmacy. Some places you'll go to and you'll be treated like a guest you are and supported the way you should be. However sometimes you'll wake up in the morning smiling thinking you are going to work in a professional environment. When you arrive at the work place you realise it's a ditch, the support staff are being awkward and one query by a customer with minimal staff support and BANG all hell breaks loose.

YOU GO HOME AND HOPE FOR THAT DAY NEVER TO COME AGAIN.

ohhhh I feel a lot better now... :-) stress free.

s I have said before, Pharmacy has taken me all over the world and given me some peace of mind in knowing that locums always available. I have had a comfortable 'retirement' thanks to locums.

Very true is not all doom and gloom just alot of pharmacists on this forum have been doing it for 20 odd years. However they are also positive about it like Johneps previous post. You dont just have to stay in a shop unless you enjoy it.

I've heard (and know) that hospital pharmacy is a happy place, although the pay is considerably lower at the early stage of ones career but it is less prone to european "pharmacist" recruitment.
