Anyone know if Mike Harvey has had a response to the letter he sent to Boots management over a month ago about the staff shortages and overwork at the pharmacy where he was locumming?

Who wouldn't be surprised if the answer was no!
PDA seems to be a leading contender in taking interests of pharmacists welfare, i think that's your best bet
if there is an election and let pharmacist choose which party should represent pharmacists,
A) PDA
B) RPSGB
C) NPA
D) CPPE
E) BPSA
F) others
who would you go for?
re:Lack of staff
So many pharmacists are working in appauling conditions and under so much pressure- its so sad. What has pharmacy become- trying to achieve targets when you have minimum staffing levels and you just want to get thru the day without making a dispensing error and truly we do make a difference to peoples lives because the customers are really grateful that we have taken the time out to counsel them on their meds and explain things even though we get no appreciation or thankyous from the management.
Who would have thought that this is what it would be like in the real world when we were at university.
Totally agree... was discussing that this morning with one of our regular locums.
I am still in my prime, I am a qualified ACT, and could have given uni a good go to become a pharmacist. I have been contemplating the idea for quite some time, hoping that when things settle (family wise and financially) I could go back to uni. Looking at my manager this week, despite the much better wages, TBH I thought no way... It was disheartening, looking at my manager having to check 600 items a day, with no help from me because we are short staffed and there are things to dispense and deliveries to put away (and virtually no supporting staff to dispense for me), as well as trying to work towards the somewhat unreachable MUR weekly target set by the managers because we're behind and we need to catch up before the end of the year, and deal with customer queries, phone calls, mail etc... that really really puts me off and wonder if the hassle is worth the money.
Don't worry.Pharmacists salaries likely to decline from now on, so gap between ACT and pharmacist will be smaller.

Is it getting that bad johnep?
When there are a few hundred pharmacists chasing every job as is happening in other careers, then the multiples will take advantage. Way back in the 30s,
the PJ refused job adverts unless salary above a minimum. Pharmacists were working as cinema attendants and many opened pharmacies in out of the way places. One pharmacist reported in the PJ that his offered salary had been £8/week, but in his first week of owning his own pharmacy he had made £10. My first locum was at £2.50/day, but the assistants were being paid £6/week.

Recruitment, motivation and retention.
Wouldn't you say the level of control and rules that we have to work under will have a negative effect? There seems to be a rule for anything and everything. Use your initiative and you are a marked man/woman.
Here's one pharmacist who isn't!
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
What do you want?;..................
