I agree that customers are becoming more obnoxious. Ironically, it is our professional status which they take advantage of. They behave nastily towards the pharmacist, as they know that the professional training of pharmacists encourages them to try and defuse situations, rather than reflect the obnoxious behaviour back on to the perpetrator, and give them a taste of their own medicine. (no pun intended!) The fact that evil customers feel that attacking innocent, hard-working professionals is accceptable conduct, is a sad reflection of the state of the world in general. I've recently started a blog, eternityexam.blogspot.com which I find very therapeutic. Before I started blogging, I was more tempted to give them feedback on how it was unacceptable to take advantage of my good nature. However, now that I have a blog where I can fulfill my peace-warrior aspirations in an intelligent fashion, I find it increasingly easier to remain 100% professional and concentrate on the prescription, problem, or advice. My thinking is that if they can't interact with me with respect and kindness, then I am entitled to block off any interaction on a "humanity" level, and they have to deal with a pharmacist who is sweet, friendly, helpful, and goes that extra mile; but not because they care for a customer behaving obnoxiously, but because they care for their livelihood, and the oppurtunities it affords them; to enjoy life, and also make a difference for the better. This approach is working fantastically well, frustation = 0, peace and serenity = 100%. As many of the people I meet in my day, both in and out of work, give me some of the inspiration for my blog topics, I know justice is beginning to be served. Even if those people don't read my blog (sorry but many of the more obnoxious ones wouldn't understand peaceful, highbrow debate anyway), I believe in karma. A butterfly flapping it's wings could cause a tornado on the other side of the world... Last edited by Universal Angel; 20th, August 2006 at 09:09 PM. |

Seriously, some of them are just happy someone treats them like a normal person, even if only a polite "how are you doing" or some such. True, some are horrendous, and think the world owes them everything, but on the whole I find them ok. I used to run a needle exchange, and found it probably the best retail job I've ever had.

Sorry admin, I probably am being a bit too deep for the pitch of this forum. The 3 reasons you've hypothesized for rude behaviour are all valid, but the purpose of my contributions was to get the root reasons out in the open. If more people had some kind of deep spiritual knowledge/experience, they would not think venting personal frustations (eg. poor NHS service as you've suggested), on an innocent pharmacist was sensible. Not if they had been warned there would be eternal consequences for initiating aggressiveness. True, some people are just not evolved enough to hold their own in a sophisticated, nice manner, but they only have themselves to blame. In this country we all have enough oppurtunities and time to educate and improve ourselves on an ongoing basis. P.S. I often write poetically, but I did think the poetic nature of the relevant sentences would be self-evident. I guess I am one of the few scientists who is passionate about English language and literature... Last edited by Universal Angel; 20th, August 2006 at 11:54 PM. |

Bloody 'ell! Don't she talk pretty! ![]() Only joking Angel. I usually only come on here to stir people up or have a moan. My usual posts take about thirty seconds to type and use about 0.2% of my brain. I try not to think to hard in my time off! Good to hear from you Angel you do make valid points but I still enjoy a good argument when the a*seholes come in. But that's just me

By 'eck she does talk nice, you're right. I've never had any kind of spiritual experience, unless you count the drinking kind of spirits of course.......... If there are eternal consequences for aggressiveness, I'm stuffed anyway - might as well live it up a bit! We can do deep angel, but we mostly do shallow..........with the odd bit of serious stuff thrown in. All contributions, including your very lovely post are greatly welcome. OK that's me done - off to play poker!
