    Flu injections

    OK..so what's the deal now?

Daily letters/emails from the HSE..Cuts and more cuts....Reply? 'We are Healthcare Professionals, we require an extended role to enable us to provide our services'

So we are allowed an extended role....Result?..Oh No!

Latest..Many Pharmacists make a complete bags of administering flu jabs.. apparently only giving half dose 'in error'..

Dispair. I knew this would happen.

Ah Fregg, don't you know despair is a sin?
It isn't that bad. A few people made a mistake. Maybe you've made the odd one yourself sometime? They followed the instructions they were given on a training course and took an exam which involved them being observed doing it that way and passed. Yes they should have read the SPC for the product they were using but sometimes these things get overlooked.
The mistake was noticed and is being rectified. Nobody came to any harm. On the scale of medical errors it hardly qualifies as a disaster.

I'm not involved in vaccination myself - too rushed and too much hassle for too little return - but I can still have sympathy for those involved.

Latest..over 800 HSE staff (our NHS) also got the half dose, no pharmcists involved but if it hadn't been for a pharmacist spotting, and more importantly admitting, the original error this would not have come to light.

Like all errors there isn't a single cause but a combination of factors and in this case the poor design of the prefilled syringe, that had a single black line on it for the paediatric dose but no markings to indicate this or no indication of the adult dose, seems to have been what caught out most people.

    Fair enough.

Docs round my way got everyone in early for their flu jabs anyway..they still get their €40 per shot. Suppose they got half dose as well. Guaranteed won't see that on any website.
