    Post-coital contraception

    1) The age of consent in Ireland is 17 years old. How can I prove the customer is 17?
    2) It is being openly advertised as 'available' yet why is my wholesaler still out of stock?
    3) If I choose not to supply on a Sunday morning, what referral do I make?
    4) How do I know my questions regarding previous ectopics etc are being answered truthfully?
    5) What happens when the parents find out and become involved?
    6) Can I legally create a PMR for an OTC sale?
    7) Why were Boots and Unicare given a head start?
    8) WHY SHOULD I EVEN FECKIN' BOTHER ??

Answers on a postcard to Mary Harney..Cop-out queen..€310,000 per year for getting it so wrong.

Because you're a pharmacist, that's what we do, bother about our patients, but I agree - even by Irish standards this has been a complete mess.

Now Fleeg you must know Mary H isn't there any more. It's Mary C now, and soon to be Dr James. Can somebody else make an even bigger mess of it?

I know Mary H has gone..still think she's ultimately responsible though. My point is she gets ten grand per stone of her body-weight in pay-off as a failed 'health minister'. Thank God she didn't get fat.

I'm still not sure about this morning-after thing. As usual, it has been rushed in, without any proper thought about potential legal consequences. I for one will refuse to supply until I am 100% confident there will be no repercussions. I know there will be. The lawyers are probably rubbing their hands with glee already.

PS. 'Dr James' may well have invested wisely in the past couple of years, given his new position...

I think Levonelle is an important product but I do find that it is overused by a small number of women.

    Re: Post-coital contraception

This has been supplied for a number of years now under PGD in Scotland - a better way IMHO than charging exorbitant drug company retail price to (mostly) vulnerable young people, and the protocol for supply more thorough . It has been a hugely benefitial service for women giving easy access to a method of CONTRACEPTION which is best used within a short time - thus pharmacy availability aiding its provision..........

Would like clarification on why (eg )a responsible 42 yr old woman experiencing a burst condom is deemed to be an 'offender'?

Also 'what happens when the parents find out' ; would be nice if they could appreciate their daughter/son ( - also possibly involved? It does take two..) had the sense to access the service they required in a timely and professional manner .

Appreciate public opinion in Ireland regarding sex is sensitive - but we are dealing with after the event ,yes?

Please tell me I am wrong but the tone of previous posts is not what I would like to encounter as a possibly pregnant young girl............

I don't think anyone thinks that. Levonelle is a very useful product.

This typifies the Irish thinking on sex generally. The result of centuries of repression. One of the reasons why the priests got away with it so long. Sex is regarded as something not to be discussed and regarded as sin. No wonder that it is on everyone's thoughts and such a popular choice for confession.
Condoms are for prevention of disease and not for contraception.
Just thought I would stir things up.

    Nobody taking you on johnep?
I would, except I'm much too repressed to even think about a delicate topic like that.
