    Thumbs up Pharmacy in Ireland

    Hello there,
I just wondered if anyone has any experience of Pharmacy in Ireland (North or South). Is it very different to England? How would one get info on how to register, etc.
Im trying to decide if relocation a good idea or not, so any info on anyones experience would be greatly appreciated!!
    Cheers!

As many Irish pharmacists coming to England because of lack of jobs, don't get your hopes up.

Ireland is currently oversupplied with Pharmacists. You would have to locum to begin with- Locum Suppliers, CPL, Pharmacist Jobs Ireland are the main agencies. From there you may get a contact for a full time position (Ireland is all about contacts or "pull" as it's known ). As a locum you may only get 2/3/4 days per week. Unlikely to get the full 5 days. Pay is about 30 Euro per hour. Good luck with your decision either way.

There was ONE Pharmacist job (and a three month Locum one at that) advertised in the Sunday Independent this week. There is some Locum work in the South, but from what I hear, you'll be clocking the miles up between jobs. North's a no go area altogether. Hope this answers your question.

Think very carefully and do a lot of homework before making are moves. There are several threads on the Irish forum that may help, but basically this isn't a good time.
If you have a track record with Boots or Lloyds you may be able to transfer to their Irish operation, otherwise it will be tough to break into. Even Boots are offering their pre-regs jobs in England once they qualify. As Culchie advises don't even think about NI.
Only experienced and very competent locums still get €30 a hour, €25 is now a more realistic expectation.
