    Silly question time...

Sorry about this but I'm still confused about it.
Did my first locum yesterday (hurrah) and have got my head around the computer system, the different schemes and the different brand names, no bother.
However I get confused as to the receipts for the Drugs Payment Scheme and Drugs Refund Scheme. The PMR system spits them out at me and I tear them off to go out with the bagged script, but sometimes the patient has to sign them and give them back, and sometimes the patient has to keep them.
I don't want to cock up the paperwork by handing over a form that should have been kept... or keeping one that the patient should have been given...

Please could someone explain simply the difference ?? Thanks.

It's not a silly question, I still get it wrong sometimes and I have been doing it for years. Even if you do get mixed up it isn't the end of the world, just reprint the receipt. I'm an expert at reprinting labels and receipts because I've had so much practice.

As you have no doubt figured out if there are two receipts they sign one for you to keep and you put the one marked "patient copy" into the bag.

The problem is when there is only one receipt. If it is Drug Refund (i.e the patient DOESN'T have a DPS number) then it is THEIR receipt and you put it in the bag.
If it is DPS and for zero, because the patient has already paid their €100 this month, then you need to get it signed and keep it to claim.
My tip is check the amount - if they are paying they get the receipt, if there is nothing to pay you keep the receipt.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Twinkle, one thing you have to keep an eye out for when going to different shops, is that a few places have set the computer to only print one DPS sheet rather than two ie just printing the pharmacy copy. When I queried this, I was told that "the person doesn't really need the DPS receipt as they can just get a med1 printout at year end anyway".

Just something to watch out for -- only happens in a few places.

ahhh - including the one I was working in. It's easy enough to print a second one at the same time, just press "receipt" after finishing the script and a second one will come out.
Thanks - will remember that one.
