    The current situation..your views.

Will Pharmacy in Ireland survive the current attack from the HSE?

Is your current income sufficient to sustain your lifestyle in such an expensive country to live in?

Does the Irish infrastructure (public transport, condition of roads, road tax, banking system, retail price monopoly, coalition government) meet your requirements?

Are you sick of blatant government nepotism and the legendary Manchester briefcases full of sterling?

Is your house half-built? Do you look forward to mains sewerage or a septic tank?

    Do you have broadband yet?

Do you still suffer frequent power failures?

Do you think a country which currently borrows €400 million per week with a population of 4.2 million is a legitimate entity within the European Union?

Have you recently considered re-location within the EU or elsewhere, albeit for a lower salary, but better quality of life?

Post now..we all need to know each other's opinions!

    Fleegle.

hi everyone, i am an independant pharmacist from cork city. i am an owner manager in corks inner city and the effect of the cuts would finish me off to be honest. i just cannot get my head around at how 'stupid' our government/HSE/Mary Harney are in trying to ram these cuts through. by being so severe they have effectively united a divided profession. now chains, independents people with all different kinds of rx and business mixes are united in trying to fend off this attack, and it is an attack.they needed emergency legislation to enact such a cut and to use their powers so irresponsibly if just madness!
i for one will not do business with these bastards anymore. they can dig there own hole..............

    Hey reverand..

Thankyou for taking time to post here, and a very warm welcome to the forum.

Whilst I am not a pharmacy proprietor in my own right, I am supervising pharmacist with an independent in Limerick. Our pharmacy has, like yourself, given the statutory 30 days notice to withdraw from the government drug schemes on August 1st.

Your post says it all, and I need add nothing to it. You are absolutely correct in everything you say.

I feel the main purpose of the Irish forum at present is to bring the current Irish situation to the attention of our UK colleagues in this time of crisis, so they are aware of the severity of what is happening just across the water. My own feeling is that the more pharmacists are aware of this ridiculous situation brought about by the disgraceful lack of management by Harney and Drumm at both ministerial and executive levels, then the more support we will have on 'A Day', on August 1st.

Thanks again, and keep posting! We are NOT going to lose this!

Suggest you check this thread as well:

    Keep the faith,

    Fleegle.

I'll sign onto the thread even though I'm not working as a pharmacist at the moment (picked the wrong time to register dint I ??!!)

I'm doing what's called "watchful waiting" to see the havoc that Ms Ha-ha-harney has created for herself....I expect to see backtracking too as the "Official HSE pharmacies from August 1" list has been published today...

    Locations of HSE operated pharmacies

St Patrick's Hospital, Summerhill, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim
Aras Naomh Chaolain, Knock Road, Castlerea, Co Roscommon
Donegal Community Hospital, Donegal Town, Co Donegal
Dungloe Community Hospital, Dungloe, Co Donegal
Carndonagh Community Hospital, Convent Road, Carndonagh, Co Donegal

Falcarragh Community Hospital, Falcarragh, Co Donegal
St Marys Hospital, Castlebar, Co Mayo
    Mercy Road, Ballina, Co Mayo
    Arus Deirbhle, Belmullet, Co Mayo
Cherryfield House, Coolgrane, Killarney, Co Kerry
19 Denny Street t, Tralee, Co Kerry
Listowel Community Hospital, Listowel, Co Kerry

    Yes - hugely accessible - they'll make a massive difference. What a joke !!!

I feel hugely sorry for all practising pharmacists right now, especially the independents. I also feel for the patients - it's not their fault.
    We shall see...
    Sad state of affairs.

    It's really a case of:
“Yes, we saw the problem coming. And we expected the government would do all the wrong things – which it has. But we never imagined that they’d do so many stupid things all at once.”

Btw thanks Fleegle for creating/moderating this part of the Forum unlike the "Gombeens in Govt" Job well done.

I am an independant pharmacist in a rural area of Ireland.

I don't see any way Pharmacy in Ireland can survive in it's present form which supplies a high quality service to a small, very scattered population. This is achieved by having close personal relationships between patients, doctors and pharmacists.

Instead the agenda seems to be to move towards a UK style, multiple dominated system. This depends on high volumes that we simply don't have in a country whose population is similar to that of Greater Manchester.
I see a future where those in urban centres will get an adequete but impersonal service from wholesaler owned or backed multiples and those of us who would prefer to live outside those centres will have to travel (without having any access to public transport) if we want any service.

Not the future I was looking forward to.
