Revenue now considers locums as employees

This is the latest gem from Biffo Cowan's failed leadership team, while Bertie gives 'self employed' speeches in America on how he initiated the Celtic Tiger...yeah right!..he's been present at the Dail as TD to represent his constituency SIX times only this year!

I need opinions from all you guys doing locums in Ireland, and how you're proposing to deal with this load of gobshite, which clearly comes albeit indirectly, from Mary Harney, our 32 stone Minister for 'Health' .

Here she is, by the way, for anyone who is as-yet unfamiliar with her unprecedented attitude (and bulk)....

    Hi Fleeg

The problem I am facing as an "irregular" locum for different folks (working about 1-2 days a week at present!) , is that I do not have the chance to put through my tax credits/allowances in one place, hence I am having higher rate tax of 42% deducted at source, then PRSI then income levy. This means that for every day I work I take home about half of my gross daily rate and can't get a rebate until I fill in a tax return at the end of the year.

Asking someone who only works about 1-2 days a week to live effectively on half pay for 12 months is just crazy!

MPs would just want to know why you can't live off your e100K expense account?

Would going through an agency take care of tax issues etc ?

Sorry if this is a daft question - I've never used an agency before, was just a self-employed sole trader
