What's the current price of a pint in your local pub? In Dublin it is often upwards of €5...how does this compare with the rest of Ireland, or the UK?..
Not qualified to answer - but my son's off to Dublin for his best mates Birthday in February - and it's beginning to sound like he'll have to remain sober.
Dublin can be stupidly expensive..even just for a coffee and a sandwich.
Probably the most expensive part is the Temple Bar area...very difficult to avoid though, if you are on a weekend with the lads, as it's great fun, especially at weekends. If your son has a Cirrus or Maestro card, he will be able to withdraw Euro from cash machines, which usually works out cheaper.
Also, certain UK debit cards eg Switch, are not accepted for purchases in many outlets. Best to check with his bank before he goes.
Five euro a pint! Time to dust off the pioneer pin, me thinks. No wonder a lot now choose to have a drink at home instead. Pints in the North are about £2.80 to £3. The strong euro only makes it worse if heading over the border. The ordinary man seems to be getting priced out of a few sociable pints of a weekend.
