Hosptial>Industry?

I understand the competitiveness of getting a pre-reg placement in industry, but wanted to know if there are any other routes possible? I'm not looking for a quick buck, but it seems as though it's in industry where pharmacists are really paid what they deserve if I'm correct.

If one were to do hosptial pre-reg, then qualify+ work as a hospital pharmacist, is there a way to transfer to industry? Or is ones career pretty much set in stone after this point?

i wouldn't have thought its set in stone. there is nothing stopping you from applying to any sector of pharmacy once you have qualified! but i'm guessing those having done pre reg in industry for the 6 months would have their foot in the door, but don't let that put you off from applying!

I was always under the impression having a phd under your belt would help in industry..not sure how true that is?! the only way of "transferring" is to apply for jobs, but from what i see and hear they are few and far between.

i guess by working in hospital, you may get to see drug reps, they may be able to help you out......

Easiest way from hosp pharmacy is through technical services and manufacturing, eg aseptics. Probably a route also through clinical trials

thanks to both of the above, I was under the impression that once a decision is made at the pre-reg stage, then its determined what ones career will be, of course though it will probably be harder alternating during career.

don't let the decision you make at pre reg dictate which path you take....just because you do pre reg place in industry doesn't mean you can only stay in industry.

you can apply to any sector, but some of the transitions are easier to make than others, due to the nature of the work that it entails
