hey has anyone applied for pre-reg in industry?

Dwindling number of places in industry (would probably think it's in single figure now) as companies move research and manufacturing abroad. Manufacturing is key because that's where the majority of the time in an industrial placement would be spent.

Afraid you are right Nik. Many of my uni friends did pre reg in industry and some became directors of those companies. Now, every company I knew when young has vanished. BDH, M&B, W&B, BW, Whitehall, Allied, etc etc.

Made worse when the big co's buy up the smaller companies, e.g Pfizer and Wyeth essentially trying to poach another co's potential future blockbuster(s). I suppose the only route now is through hospital eg aseptics, technical services and clinical trials.

Iv applied in industry, but its been ages and havnt heard bak from them. Iv done a 10 week placement in R&D at gsk, but even my friends who did placements with me havnt heard back. kinda worrying really. I know places are limited and its patheticaly difficult to get a place, but even a simple rejection would atleast put my mind at rest lol. pharmalife deadlines are next friday :S so need to know.
I did briefly consider industry during my degree but found it difficult a) because the websites of the large companies were really poor in providing info about summer placements and pre-reg, and b) because our uni gave little input into doing placements in industry. It's all about who you know when it comes to industry - a friend of mine secured a placement at GSK because he had a relative who worked for them, despite not having any real desire to work in industry.

I wrote (No net in those days) to M&B at Dagenham and had a three month summer placement with them in 1955.
Worked in the injectable manufacturing laboratory. Interesting, but pay (£4.50 a week against £7.50 in retail) was poor and really put me off manufacturing for life. In those days still used Tyndallisation as a sterilisation method.
