    Chirality

    I think this looks like the better of the forums to post in

    Thinking back to university, and good old organic chemistry....does the molecule below have a chiral centre?

    Over 50 years since had to think about tables and chairs. However I used to sell d-cycloserine as an antibiotic so this would indicate yes.
    Also the double bond for the oxygen would stop rotation and therefore the C2H2 group(as is shown in the diagram) has chirality.

    interesting as i thought it would be the carbon attached to the NH2 group. I thought the idea of a chiral centre was that it had 4 different groups attached to the carbon???

    Yeah I think it's the C atom top-left bound to the NH2 group which is the chiral centre.
