Hi, I am a student of final year Pharm- D. In my last year i had to manufacture a product and mine was LIQUID PARAFFIN ORAL EMULSION. i have found the assay procedure for liquid paraffin emulsion but cannot find the assay of the active ingredient itself i.e., liquid paraffin.
please someone help me as i have to submit my product in less than 36 hours now. Please give me the procedure that can be performed in lab without using any HPLC or other hi-tech techniques.
It would be assumed that the Liquid Paraffin used in preparation would be of pharmacopeia standard and the assay would be found in the BP or BPC.
However, for the emulsion all they will want is the amount of LP present in say 100g or 100ml. The assay for LP would involve mainly physical characteristics. such as Refractive index, presence of heavy metals etc. Beyond your scope, don't worry. Just state amount of LP present and if this complies with the monograph for LPE, then nowt to worry about.
