I have future plans in industrial pharmacy. Does anyone know what universities offer a chance to gain experience in industry during ( I think) the third year of studies?
When I wanted an industrial placement, I wrote to the local manufacturer (May & Baker at Dagenham) and worked in the injectables manufacturing lab for three months, (£4.50 a week compared to the £7.50 in retail).
Learnt a lesson there. At that time (1954) plastic bags were a novelty and one of the staff was collecting the liners in which the raw materials came.
These had to be declared to security on leaving the factory. He said the bags had contained harmless chemicals and was allowed to take them out.
Me being trained at college said they had contained drugs for processing.
"Drugs!" declared the security man, of course not, and they were confiscated.
Medicines are beneficial to the general public but 'drugs' are nasty addictive things.
I never referred to meds as drugs in future.
Yet we were being trained as 'chemists and druggists'.
no one thinks the C&D is a mag for addicts.
