How much does hospital pharmacy technicians, in general, get paid if they are certified?
In hospital pharmacies, do IV pharmacy techs (chemotherepy technicians) (i think that is the name) get paid more than regular pharmacy techs? I hear pharmacy techs get paid about $14/hour, but that figure seems a little low for me for a professional who is certified and working in field for let's say 10-20 years.
As a newly qualified tech you would land as a band 4, this post is quite general and in our Trust, band 4's are rotational so they have periods of time in the dispensary, mental health, medicines management and technical services (aseptic preparation). Progressing to a Band 5 position you would be expected to be a Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) and in a more responsible role (obviously). For instance I am a Band 5 in Clinical Trials, therefore I am responsible for the overall management of clinical trials and not just dispensing/returning trial material. Our deputy dispensary managers are band 6's as well as the technical services managing technician. Band 7 goes to the training team and lead dispensary manager and finally the band 8A tech is responsible for all pharmacy technicians (not quite sure what the job involves though).
That should give an idea of how techs are banded. Prior to qualifying the ATOs are band 1-2, Senior ATOs (SATOs) are band 2-3 and student technicians are a percentage of a band 4.
Hope the info is beneficial to some thinking of moving to hopsital pharmacy.
