Anyone know a simple document I could read about how the rpsgb has split and how this affects pharmacy. So far both hospitals Ive attended have asked this and it just seems so difficult to explain as I cannot get my head round it myself.

Dame Janet
Government agenda of splitting professional regulation from professional support.
The evidence provided that the new system will be better (none).
....just my opinion
Evidence that it will be better... None.
Historically the RPSGB have not shown lenience for any infringement once they get knowledge of it, even those not connected with pharmacy beyond a parking ticket.
Once I forgot to pay my newspapers for a week and went into a panic.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
What do you want?;..................
The fact that almost any new body could not be worse than the outgoing one. ( almost because under apathy rules the old lot will just move and populate the new structure and the old order will roll on) The old lot were good at the regulation bit (mostly) and poor at the support bit (very).
Look on the bright side the new support bit is voluntary and therefore your annual retention fee may fall. May because the new regulation lot will try to maximise their income and you must join to practice.
The surprise support from B**ts (paying the fees for year one of the support bit) may caution some as with all their pharmacists signed up they will have a very large, democratically obtained, voice. That is if that forms part of your definition of democracy.
To answer the OP. The regulation will be separated from the professional support. Regulation membership will be mandatory for practice the support arm will be voluntary. Both will cost real money. There have been long rounds of "consultation" meetings and many arguments principally around who should be able to join the new support body eg Industrial pharmacists, technicians, retired pharmacists overseas practising pre-reg. When you have said that you will sound as if you actually were interested in the process which the majority of pharmacists are not.
