    Racism in dispensary

    food 4 thought!
how come there are so few ethnic minority pharmacists/techs/ato's in hospital pharmacy?

anyone come across sutle or casual racism directed at ethnic (black/asian) people in the dispensary? i for one have

i personally have come to terms with the idea that we live in an institutional racist society and that hospital pharmacy is no different.

While you're at it could you please define 'subtle racism' as well?

Could it be that customers have had bad service and have associated the two things?
(Note that bad service is available at other pharmacies.)

Ambition of many 1st and 2nd generation immigrants is to work for themselves.
Not possible in hospitals except as a locum.

On the other hand there alot more minorties in community pharmacy than ethnic British. Could that be classed as racism. I think its purely just preference to work independently. Or also its possible your location is particularly low in ethnic minorities. Most stay close to major cities due to strong family ties.

In the hospital where I worked the majority of pharmacy staff were from an Asian background and if anything I felt I was in the minority (white British). It was in London, however, so I guess the racial mix depends on a number of factors including geography.

Pass - I've never experienced hospital pharmacy.

Of course. We are all racist to different degrees.

We do live in an institutionally racist society - what's new?
