    Working up to become clinical

As a prospective hospital pharmacist who is currently applying for pre-registration places I was wondering how difficult it is to progress to a clinical role within hospital pharmacy? I have always wanted to work as a clinical pharmacist but would like to know if it depends on the hospital you are at or other factors as to how easy or quickly you can obtain a clinical role?

If anyone has any more information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You are likely to be given a ward to look after towards the end of your pre-reg year (under supervision). Post qaulification, if you stay in the hospital service, you are likely to rotate through different areas/types of wards, with a good amount of dispensary work thrown in. You'll have to do the clinical diploma to give you more training, as the degree and pre-reg is not enough to become a clinical pharmacist. Once you have that, then it is a case of applying for more clinical-based jobs!
