”We are real. We are not glam sh*t or anything else. We are Guns N’ Roses.”
I thought it was the posh name Boots gave their employee pharmacists--I'm sure I saw badges with that on it a few years back.
I used to have one...a boots "consultant pharmacist" badge - they gave that title to any pharmacist that had been with the company for 18mths. I left a while back. Looking back, I think if you got one, it almost resigned you to the fact that you were a boots clone. They have got rid of it now I think. Handing my name badge and locker key was probably the best move I ever made
There are a few firms which offer a kind of a hyrid between business and pharmacy consultancy. It involves an experienced pharmacist going tp pharmacies and showing them how to make the most of their businesses such as how to maximise profit from correct endorsing and organising logistics to maximise profits...
Interesting. Are you able to post links to the 'few firms' who provide this service? If so please do.
Fleeg.
I do! Business and consultancy that is... not so much advising on endorsement - more supply chain management, capacity utilisation, management accounts etc etc... quite interesting stuff...do less of it now though
I'm still confused on the consultant pharmacist title -- do they get paid more or less than a consultant salary or a pharmacist? what's involved or less involved in becoming one, along with doing their job daily? Hoping everyone here can clear up my questions

The Consultant Pharmacist post was dreamt up to reward clinical staff commensurate with experience and responsibilities without loosing them to "management" posts. Head of Pharmacy, Deputy HOP Medicines management etc are mainly admin and some pharmacists wish to avoid management and practice clinical work. The structure was originally designed to give highest rewards (financial) to those progressing through management. The CP post was designed to allow progression clinically to the higher salaries.
Under AFC you would expect 8b or c or even a 9 depending on the JD.
CP will have a "staff" under them of say 2x Band 7 4 x Band 6 and rotational pre-regs. They will be " highly specialised" in a particular area. eg ICU, A&E , Surgery. They will manage, no escape from that, their team much as a Dr consultant does so they supervise clinical activities and have the really tricky stuff referred up to them. They sit on steering groups and guide on policies and clinical issues. You would be expected to have been a Band 7 for a few years or even an 8a before being considered and have studied extensively, probably having published papers etc. There are not many about as many Trusts are unhappy to fund the posts. They are unhappy to fund any new posts BTW.
Hope that helps. I work at a DGH the trust totalling around 1,000 beds we do not have any consultant pharmacist posts.
I am confused by your link BTW to salaries they appear to be in dollars and not for medical consultants. You should consult the back pages of the PJ t get a feel for AFC bands and salaries. Or look at NHS Jobs where all jobs from cleaners to consultants, and these days with brownie points for infection and antibiotic resistance requiring skilled prescribing it is a mute point which of those two posts is doing most to bring the figures under control, are listed.
