Laudanum derivants

Can anyone tell me when Laudanum (and its more up to date derivants such as De-odourised Opium Tincture) as well as Paregoric: Were still avaliable to be dispensed in Pharmacies?

Also after it ceased to be avalaible was it ever compounded to order?

Tinct Opii and Tinct Opii Camph were frequently used in 50s.
Much more used was Chlorodyne, Tinct Chlorof and Morph.

Paragoric and Chlorodyne mainly in cough mixtures. Laudanum in diarrhoea mixtures like Crete cum opii (chalk and opium) rhubarb and opium etc.

Cough mixtures knocked out by 'limited list' in 1984 and diarrhoea mixtures standardised on kaolin and morph until this was replaced by present standard loperamide.

We also used to dispense sulphaguanidine and penbritin KS for this indication.

In a similar way Urolucosil and other sulphonamides for UTI replaced by trimethoprim.

Before amoxicillin, sulphamezathine (smez) was standard for children.

How things have changed!
