    Re: Paracetamol solution?

This is exactly why paracetamol sales are restricted. You may not feel suicidal at the moment. Come acute stress and who knows? Also people say no one else in the house and then complain when their nieces/nephews/grandchildren visit them and find something interesting in the cupd to drink. This is the reason why selling toxic poisons in old lemonade bottles was prohibited. Many children's deaths from grammoxone (weedkiller) resulted from this practice.
Blame Dr Crippen for the poisons restrictions. Other people use your arguments to justify guns being available to all.
Glue and knives are another area which you may consider carry unnecessary restrictions on sale.

    Re: Paracetamol solution?

If I felt suicidal I would take nicotine or some other readily available toxin, in which case refusing to sell me paracetamol would have accomplished nothing other than causing more suffering to someone in ill health, along with the ridiculous restrictions on ephedrine because of it's possible reduction to methamphetamine. When ill people are inconvenienced on the basis that someone may misuse a substance clearly we have gone too far. Personal responsibility over state responsibility any day.

I think you will find that buying nicotine (used as pesticide) not so easy as you think. However, we do not make the rules. Make a representation to the Minister Of Health. Perhaps you are a supporter of The Lord of the Flies and 'do as you wilt shall be the rule of the law'.
    I will comment no more.

The law will not change on your whim, ashley, unless you start a serious process of lobbying mps to sponsor a new private members bill. Can you imagine your reasoning for getting the law changed? "i want it changed because i dont like the taste of my medicine or the amount of time it takes to dissolve in my glass"
Any even well-reasoned proposal with a fundamental, selfish basis like that would get torn to shreds in the commons within minutes.

Really though, does soluble paracetamol taste that bad? In reality, no. And the elixir or suspension is far more likely to linger in your mouth for a lot longer and be even more bitter.
I'm sure you've tasted far worse things or even drunk far worse things on a saturday night. I know I have. Stop being so fussy, hold your nose and get it down you.

And i think that's me pretty much done for comments on this thread too.

I'm not trying to change the law, just giving my opinion on how badly thought out and ineffectual it is. I guess I'll just have to resort to making my own medicine, again...

Well, one last post won't hurt. as I said before, DON'T TRY TO MAKE UP YOUR OWN MEDICINES AT HOME.

the elixir you so desparately want is just as bitter as the soluble tablets you rejected - why continue to pursue it? It's well known that the bitter taste of higher concentrations of paracetamol is extremely difficult to cover.

Unless you've had the proper training, have all the right (and properly accurate) equipment and do it in a clean environment you WILL make a mistake which could be fatal.

Why not simply try asking your pharmacist nicely and see if they will sell you more than one box of paracetamol. We can sell more than 32 at our discretion.

    Re: Paracetamol solution?

Can't you just buy a couple of 200ml bottles of generic paracetamol suspension 250mg/5ml? There are lots of own brands eg. Boots and Numark. Most are orange flavour. Many pharmacies do not stock larger pack sizes. We don't. We use 200ml packs for dispensing. Most prescriptions are not for huge quantities!

Soluble paracetamol tabs do not taste good, but anything you make at home will taste vile as well as being dangerous.

Just thought I'd comment on this one...

If you need to take paracetamol for genuine reasons and can't swallow them...
    Try the caplet style tablets.
Or get the ordinary ones and break them into four pieces.
Most have a break line, then just break each half again.
Easy to swallow with a drink of water and no taste problem.

Watch out for paracetamol and the total does per day.
Its an ingredient in lots of cold and flu remedies.
Always check the ingredients on the packaging.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

    Re: Paracetamol solution?

necking 20ml of paracetamol liquid 4 times a day doesn't really appeal to me..i'm assuming other medicines are involved as well not just paracetamol?? i'd rather settle for a caplet or soluble tabs and have a glass of ribena/vimto or something on standby to get rid of the taste.
