Pizotofen is standard. However, my wife has discovered that Amitryp 10mg very effective. She was prescribed 10mg nocte as part of pain relief.

i have used amitrip 10mg before and didn't do anything to help, pizotofen was an option but he decided against it due to too many likely side effects!

    Re: gabapentin for migraine prevention

Migraineurs (I was one )- Usually have to experiment a lot with different medications. I had 'abdominal' migraine symptoms many years ago which progressed to more conventional migraine- It took 5 doctor's to get correct diagnosis. Then, at the start of the syndrome, just a co-codamol worked great. Later I had to progress to migraleve. Imigran did nothing. But others swear by tryptans.
Problem with codeine based medications-It is really bad for pharmacists- it fogs your brain and makes you look tired all the time (not a great advert!). As well as potientially being addictive if not inducing tolerance to its beneficial effects.

Eventually I paid for a York laboratories 'foodscan test'. Pinpointed food triggers- Casein (milk protein) and bakers yeast. Avoiding these scrupulously helped a great deal. But only an alternative form of therapy (not cheap or very quick but very helpful) did provide great relief (search HK4health.co.uk). i feel an imprtant issue is to definitely remove any mercury based fillings and replace with ceramic type ones- (look it up). Mercury fillings can (I personally believe it) set up a microcurrent in the jaw tissues and interfere with cranial nerves and brain functioning.

Keep well hydrated-(2 liters per day)- Tip- take painkillers with a hot drink- it vastly increases dissolution and gastric emptying rate-(especially since a migraine paralyses the gut).

(staying up late like this does not help either- get plenty of regular sleep and regular shift pattern). Disruption of circadian rythm is a definite trigger.).

Good night and all the best.
