    thank you Bobbit
you were right; they did not have it. the reason I prefer without alcohol is that I have a neuromuscular condition, and think the altcohol could have adverse effect (ingested alcohol does).
I got ibuleve now, and got conflicting advice from chemists, one says this does contain alcohol, the other that it does not.
ingredients are: ibuprofen, IMS[?]. Carbomer, Propylene glycol. Diethyl amine and purified water. judging by the smell it's alcoholic. do you know if this made with alcohol?

    Hi there,

Alcohol applied to the skin evaporates very rapidly. Very little will be absorbed. It should not affect your neuromuscular condition.

Ibuleve does contain alcohol. IMS stands for Industrial Methylated Spirits, which is predominantly ethanol. It shouldn't cause a problem though. Applying small amounts of ethanol-containing products to the skin is very different to drinking alcohol, which leads to high blood levels.

My next thought was that alcohol is a taboo word in Muslim society and therefore possible that an Ibuprofen product available in Saudi etc which is alcohol free. A problem with label declarations is that 'alcohol' is a class of compounds and the word is used instead of 'ethyl alcohol'. For example, a label declaration listed cetyl alcohol as an ingredient. A very worried lady came back wanting a refund because 'alcohol' was forbidden.
    1) We did not except returns
    2) Very difficult to explain to a member of the public.
Believe now that alternative chemical names declared to prevent problems.

Well, I've picked up a good tip from this post.

Next time I get this query for topicals, I pick up on the Industrial Alcohol tip.
I'll even vary it to say like they use in perfume and after-shave etc.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

When I worked for a perfume and flavour company, our perfumes for the Middle East and Africa were compounded using Light Liquid Paraffin. Flavours used propylene glycol.
