Think I am getting an eye infection, I have some chloramphenicol from about 5 years ago when I had one last, will this still work even tho it has been opened ?
Thanks

1) Chloramphenicol not very stable in solution, needs to be stored under refrigeration.
2) Once opened eye drops have to be used in one month as only small amount of preservative added and could be contaminated.
Throw away and buy some more as long as confirmed is simple conjunctivitis.

Ok thanks
So I can just get some more without a prescription, if I need to ?
I did see it said discard after 28 day, but I always seem to need to know the reason behind things before I will except them.
Think it was just my contact lense was rubbing, after having it out for a few hours it now feels fine !
the idea of OTC is that you don't need a prescription! but i wouldn't go buying chloramphenicol drops if it was just your contact lens playing up!!!
Probably need a new set of contact lenses.
Tried them years ago - always getting clogged up with protein deposits every two or three days.
Also seen some nasty CPD articles about eye infections related to keeping lenses clean.
Wonder if the OP should try daily disposables?
