oral topically applied corticoseroids,plz help...
Hello everyone,
I'm pleased to be a new member of this forum, i'm a resident doctor in Dentistry school, Cairo university, Oral Medicine department.
We have been facing a problem with prescribing topical corticosteroids orally for the treatment of some autoimmune diseases and other dermatologic diseases with oral presentation such as Lichen planus, Erythema multiform.etc... we used to prescribe Kenalog in orabase, but now it is not available anymore.... insteed we go for systemic adminstration or grinding a taplet of Prednisone in 1/4 of water and use it as a mouth bath which of course is not that effective...
I will really appreciate any suggestion for any alternatives that could be used efficiently on the oral mucosa....and accept my aplogies if my message was legthy....

Corlan is the brand of a prednisolone tablet which is used as a lozenge and held against a mouth ulcer by the tongue or cheek. Presumably you could use a tablet of standard prednisolone in the same way. Or, ask your pharmacy to prepare stiff gel of acacia or tragacanth gum and use this as a vehicle for finely powdered steroid.

I thought corlan was hydrocortisone? Which has a manufacturing problem so is almost impossible to get hold of right now.
Unlicensed indication - beclomethasone 50mcg inhaler - spray one or two puffs onto the ulcer or where required in the mouth twice a day. Then rinse mouth out after about 5 minutes.

You are right, a senior moment on my part. Still any steroid should do.
