I don't know about the uk but in the usa, only hfa propellant is allowed and "floating" the inhaler is a definite no no for hfa inhalers and I don't tink it is recommended for cfc mdis anymore either. The composition of the hfa mdi contents is such that water will clog the valve as the medication attracts the moisture. Floating was once a recommended method, but is no more. A second point is that if the canister says "200 actuations" , then that is all the medication you get. The canister will still feel partially full when shaken ( and will show about 1/4 full by the float method) but only propellant remains. Without a counter, you must track the number of doses used somehow. Third point, check the package insert to see how many days the mdi can sit unused before it must be primed again and how many puffs are required to prime it. Last point, if you benefit from the medicine, you must pay attention to these recommendations. Also, get a valved holding chamber (static free if you can afford it), learn how to use it and use it.
