Effectiveness of Levonelle when taken with Antibiotics

Posting under this ID as I'm slightly embarrassed and worried.

I take Dianette for my skin rather than as a contraceptive so don't always take it at the same time everyday. I also take Erythromycin. Anyway there was an accident (condom split). I tried to buy Levonelle but was refused as I take Erythromycin. I was sent to the walk-in centre who also couldn't prescribe it as it was outside their PGD. Eventually I got a Rx from Thamesdoc. I am slightly worried about it's effectiveness. I stopped taking Dianette on Fri. as I need to have a break but I haven't had my period as yet. Would I have a normal period after taking Levonelle? Any advice much appreciated.

I trust you pay the prescription charge. If you claim for contraceptive purposes, then that is technically fraud.

I would want to ask some questions of those people who didn't supply it. Basically I don't believe them. Hopefully someone out there will point out if I'm mistaken: I haven't come across this yet in practice. CPD opportunity!

Levonelle can mess your periods up. If you are more than 5 days late you need a pregnancy test.

Condom splits: I think they can be down to getting oil on the condom, not just the clicheed baby oil scenario, but also hand creams, oily soaps, bath oils. You need to take real care that there is no oil in contact with the latex.

I have a pre-payment certificate so I am covered with that. I know that if I didn't have my certificate I would have to pay.

Since I posted there has been a little bleeding but not what I would call normal for a period. Perhaps it's a lot lighter because of the Levonelle? I've experienced stomach pain on the right and left side but usually I don't have any discomfort with my periods.

The site pharmanaut recommended says that if the period is more than 7 days late, OR LIGHTER THAN USUAL, a pregnancy test is advised.

So, I think you are very likely not pregnant, but would advise a preg test just to be sure.

In my personal experience, I was on the minipill, I took Levonelle and then I had the mother of all periods.
I am pretty sure it does say it will affect your periods. But if you don't come on I would do a test. Best to have peace of mind for the sake of a few quid anyway than worry for the next few days.
