I am from the UK but now live in Spain. There seems to be a problem with the supply of Questran. The labs tell me there is a shortage of one of it's components. Is it available in England? Could I get it on private prescription?
Is it expensive?
This product was prescribed to me by a specialist over 20 years ago. I have no problem with Crohn's Disease now, only diarrhoea due to the right hemi-coloectomy I had 30 plus years ago. This product effectively 'binds' the bile in the large intestine and has allowed me to live a normal life.

We haven't been able to get hold of it for a few weeks. But i have just checked and our wholesaler(Alliance) have it in stock now.

there used to be an unbranded version as well. It was a bit cheaper, although not very popular.
....just my opinion

I must refer our patient off to another phamacy so - we can only use UD. Cheers

If uniphar can get it then UD should be able to as well. Ask to speak to the buyer's office and tell them uniphar have it --that should get it sorted out sharpish.

Still no Questran from any of the usual suppliers. Any more information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Suggest find out from your pharmacy the manufacturers 'phone nbr, or just google. Contact customer service dept. They should be able to give you details.

I spoke to Rubio SL (manufacturers of Colestramina, ie. Questran) in Barcelona. They said that they expect to resume supplies any time now. I also asked at a pharmacy in the UK last week, who had just had a delivery from UK supplier. I was lucky enough to find 2 years supply in Spain, so my panic is over. As a Crohn's disease sufferer, my life would be very stressful without this medication. Is there any alternative ???
