Quick Q, is Losartan now licensed for use in heart failure in the UK?

    Thanks

As per BNF "hypertension (including reduction of stroke risk in hypertension with left ventricular hypertrophy); diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus"

An angiotensin-II receptor antagonist may be used as an alternative to an ACE inhibitor in the management of heart failure (section 2.5.5) or diabetic nephropathy (section 6.1.5).

    from cks website

    # Losartan is licensed for the treatment of chronic heart failure (in people 60 years of age or older) when treatment with an ACE inhibitor is not considered suitable (for example because of cough) [ABPI Medicines Compendium, 2009].

    * Losartan is a black triangle drug for this indication; it is under intensive monitoring by the Commission on Human Medicines and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
if it is licensed it would be indicated for HF in the bnf wouldnt it?

No, because the BNF is only updated twice a year. The HF indication will be added to the next edition.
