Question Tiny blue ring shaped pills.

Hi,

I’m looking for help and would appreciate any that can be offered to get to the bottom of a mystery that has baffled both my sister and me for many years.

When we were young children our mother used to give us these tiny blue ring style pills before bed. We both remember this as we thought it was a treat because we got a cup of milk to wash them down.

The subject was brought up at some point a few years ago but my mother is absolutely adamant that this never happened, but whilst denying this she became very agitated and tried to change the subject immediately. This has been mentioned now on a number of occasions both by my sis and me, each time the same guilty uncomfortable look becomes my mother.

So what were they? We remember perfectly well that we were given these pills and would really like to know what they were. This was around 1975.

Many thanks for any help that can be offered,

Col

Hi,
I wasn't even born then so I can't help you.

But, if you contact Southampton Hospital Medical Information service (google for contact details - can't find at the mo) they have access to a computer programme which can identify many many tablets (past and present, conventional and herbal, legal and illegal). They may not be able to give you 100% identification.

Have the following info ready when you phone cos they prob won't be able to help you much with the phrase 'ring shaped blue tablets'. Give approximate diameter (in millimetres); approx depth; any surface markings or letters.

Hope that helps.

I was born in 1975, and have been qualified for 9 years during which I've not a come across any ring shaped tablets. Maybe it was a vitamin or something herbal? It sounds intriguing.

I initally had a faint recall from my BTEC forensic sci lectures; about certain "shaped Pills"

It sounds suspiciously like the orgional branded Diazepam (Valium)
10mg tablets. I have enclosed a picture for reference: Imageiazepam(Valium) DOJ.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Even of they werent exactly like those pictured (circular hole instead of heart shaped hole) it could have been one of a number of benzodiazapines manufactured by another company. American drugs companies espeically have this obsession with "designer shaped" branded pills; one only has to look at the "blue pill" infamy Viagra has gained.

Best Regards,

mr_colt.

Phenergan crossed my mind too, but Col is adamant that they had holes in. I could be wrong but Valium brand is the only pill I've ever come across that fits the description.

The only other possiblilty that comes to mind is some super-obscure themed vitamin or flouride tablet. Were flouride tablets popular then?

I have a very old copy of tic-tac running on an old PC at one of my locum placements. I'll have a look next time I am there.
