    Norethisterone

Can anyone give me any info on Norethisterone such as possible side effects, it's main uses and what may happen when you stop taking this med??

I have read the basic info that is out there but would appreciate some more help from the experts.

    Thanks

    Re: Norethisterone

    Hi.....
Norethisterone (or norethindrone) is used in some combined oral contraceptive pills and in some progestogen only pills. It is a progestogen and can be used to treat premenstrual syndrome, painful periods, abnormal heavy bleeding, irregular periods, menopausal syndrome (in combination with oestrogen), or to postpone a period. Norethindrone was the first orally highly active progestin to be synthesized. It was synthesized for the first time by chemists Luis Miramontes, Carl Djerassi, and George Rosenkranz at Syntex in Mexico City in 1951
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medication includes nausea, vomiting, bleeding between menstrual periods, breast tenderness or weight gain.

    Hi Mohanad
Thank you for the info. Very useful. Could I ask another question?? Are hot flushes/night sweats part of the possible side effects??

Sorry to go on but I really need to find out about this.

    Thanks again

It's possible as it can cause adrenergic-like effects..

    Re: Norethisterone

    Hi Shwampa
Thanks for that. It seems as though the night sweats/hot flushes were such a problem for this person taking this med that they stopped the tablets abruptly but the sweating carried on for a couple of days from what she was saying. It also seemed to make her main symptoms worse so there was really no point her taking them.

    Thanks again
