    Rectogesic ointment

Used this ointment for one month for a fissure. After approx 1 week of finishing have headache on right side front, feel dizzy and have double vision. If I close one eye the double vision goes, also the right eyelid is closing on its own, could this be a discontinuation symptom from the ointment, it has been like this for two weeks now. Have had eye test, blood test and ct scan and no cause can be found

You had no side-effects like this while you were actually using it? Reports are that over half users get a headache while using it, but it is cleared from the body rapidly.

With a clear CT scan and eye test, you have reassured yourself about everything I would be worried about.

    Over to the others!

Hi thanks for reply. For the first two days of using it I had a headache in exactly the same place as it is now,

have you had the headache in the past, prior to the rectogesic treatment?
Has your gp ever diagnosed you with cluster headaches? Some of your symptoms seem to match and could potentially be exacerbated by the rectogesic. May explain the clear CT and other tests too as the effects causing cluster headache are often transient and hard to pinpoint on a scan.

You have been investigated, so looks puzzling. Headaches are side effect of GTN but should have been clear now. CT scan should have eliminated possible aneurysm and other nasties. Next is to get your eyes checked.

If you were asking me, I would say if all these are negative, what other stress do you have and suggest a quiet break from it all for a week or so.

Hi had an eye test and was fine, this is why I am trying to find out if the rectogesic could be the cause cant think of anything else, no more stress than usual, which is very little

Well in that case you are an interesting pt, but like a car at a garage we cannot always find the answer. Usual attitude in these cases is wait and see or seek another opinion.

I regret you have beaten me for the moment.

Like some makes cars, the one's with "character", some of us have unusual elements in our constitutions! You have had cluster headaches in the past, and I wonder if your period using GTN has resensitised that past of your constitution. If so, I would expect it to settle down after a while.

But I secretly (until now) wonder if you've got flu, or something else.

Hi never had headaches in the past, had headaches for the first 2 days on rectogesic and the headache now is in the same place, but this does not explain why my right eye wont stay open.
