Quite possibly. Supplies of the generic will soon run out I'm sure.

    Re: co-proxamol supply

Hi, its still a POM and as such even if it is unlicenced, it cant be simply ordered from anywhere.
You have to procure it from a UK wholesaler who has is registered with the MHRA to import unlicenced specials and further has had a specific licence granted to import a specific batch from a specific and approved supplier.

In the uk, currently there are only two suppliers able to supply this
    1.Clinigen
    2.Lexon Uk VIA website http://www.lexonspecials.co.uk/

Never knew you could get it from Lexon. I thought Lexon just supplied PIs actually.

    Re: coproxamol

Does anyone have any advice which other drugs to try?

I had co-proxamol for back pain, and it was excellent. A very short course would get rid of it, or at least stop it getting much worse, and the whole thing siezing up.

I think it was the muscle relaxant aspect of it that was more useful than the painkilling one, as paractetamol just doesn't do the same job at all. I've got asthma, so a lot of other painkillers are out. Is there anything similar that does that?

Standard muscle relaxant would be Diazepam. If that does not work, then Baclofen.

Yes they do. Diazepam is a benzo and restricted somewhat by CD rules.
Baclofen used maily for spasm in MS and similar pts.

Thanks John - they look a bit heavy duty for the level of pain at the moment. Shame about coproxamol. It was great for that specific kind of muscular pain. Last time I got it was just over the counter too I think (in Canada)

    Re: coproxamol

The reason why co-proxamol was discontinued for general use was that the active constituent depressed respiration. Thus an overdose could easily cause death and the risk/benefit ratio was judged on that basis. Elderly people sometimes forgot they had taken a dose, others intentionally took in suicide attempts.

It is still available on named pt basis but cost is very very high. Tramacet was introduced in an effort to fill the gap.

Methocarbamol (robaxin) is also sometimes used as a muscle relaxant too.
However when i took it for my knackered neck and back it made me into sir_throwupalot. I found diazepam 2mg highly effective, letting things calm back down again, taken in conjunction with co-codamol 30/500. Tried 5mg one time when things were really bad but all it did was turn me into a walking zombie. God knows how folks cope with a 10mg dose...
