    Re: information about OSPAP

i hav got an approval for joining OSPAP starting not later than sep 2010, that means i have two years one this year 2009, which i suppose would not be possible because most of the seats would be already filled up by this time. so practically i got a chance to try for 2010.
My question is which university would be best Aston, Brighton, Sunderland Or RGU, in terms of education, cost of living, pre reg placement as well as parttime job while doing the Course.

Any guidance in this matter shall be highly appreciated.

I would also like to network with fellow pharmacists who have got an approval for OSPAP.

Hi, like you I have just got approval for ospap 09 or 10. Brighton and Aston have long waiting lists and are considered full. Aberdeen (RG)has places! and I don't know about Sunderland . I live in the South with family and will have to wait until 2010. I would think that RGU and Sunderland would be a lot cheaper for accomodation. You can get a single bedsit in Brighton for £90/week. Technicians earn about £7 to £10/hr. Once I have a confirmed place at a uni I will pop the champagne!

After going through the posts in this forum, it seems the pharmacist scenario is very depressing in Uk especially for overseas pharmacists like me.

    is it really so bad???

i got few things to ask:
    1) whats the fees of brighton uni for OSPAP?

    2) which season is the best to fly to brighton in terms of getting a quick job ( may be as dispenser or technician). Am planning to fly there during last week of OCT09. is that right time to come there.

    3) My HSMP visa is valid till apr2011. mean it wud expire in mid of my pre reg training. Wud it be possible for starting the pre reg traing in my case and wud i get extension of my visa.

hope u wud be able to throw some light on the above matter.

Probably will be, but we may be relying on you to update us.

Look at their website or here. Remember Google is your friend. Alternatively you could have emailed the university. The course at Brighton is very much part time and I expect that you will have to find out a lot of things by your self. I suggest you startv getting used to it and tue up your internet skills.

Have you looked at the UKBIA website there are lots of answers there. In any case your situation is probably unique to you so even if someone on this site has been in the same position, you are unlikely to be in exactly the same situation as them and as the rules are changing at the moment your are better off getting information and advice preferably in writing from the UKBIA. There are quite stiff penalties for employers who employ people without a work permit so some may be reluctant to take you on on part of a work permit.

    Good luck

Thanx Paul for ur prompt reply. its quite helpful.

I had mailed to the uni and didnt get a reply from there moreover at the uni site there wasnt much info about OSPAp. so i had asked this question.

Is there anything like an ideal season to come to UK in terms of job opportunities? I mean with christmas and new year coming up . how does it affect the job scenario in general.

For the n'th time on this forum, please search through the net to update yourselves constantly on the current financial/immigration situation and the job market. There are loads of online news papers and job sites that give loads of advice on current situation.

There is no such thing like " IDEAL SEASON" for getting a part time job. Its purely based on the area you plan to live and availability of work. In my honest opinion the job market within a dispensary is very tight and don't expect to land with a job immediately once you come here. You cant plan your journey based on the availabilty of a job as you will still be considered as an outsider and may have to look around a lot before you get employed.

If you want my advice, grab whatever kind of job and whichever place it is available at the first onset. Then once you sttle down you can try for a suitable place you want. Still it all depends on your luck.

....... or may be roll some kebabs

What I actually meant earlier was to get hold of a decent job like a counter staff in a super market etc before getting in to a pharmacy. If you get a job in a pharmacy then well and good but do not waste time searching for a job only in a Pharmacy, as the pay will be almost same and the work load will also be almost same
