Question Community Pharmacists out of shortage list UKBA

Hi everyone i have done Bpharm from Pakistan and was thinking to go for OSPAP 2010 but reading this forum i got confused i.e:
    (1) Community Pharmacists out of list UKBA so tier2 visa is to be pretty difficult to obtain i.e work permit.
    (2) Pre-registration period ...home ofice wont give extension in oir visa that is student visa for to cover up pre-registration.
My friends tell me to the point that its no use to come to UK on OSPAP course owing to the visa problems and that in simple terms due to expansion of European union they are not favouirng non-EEA pharmacists.

Anyone guide me on better alternatives for UK coz i knw they are making it impossible for non-EEA pharmaicsts to settle.

you are aware of the situation then, head off to somewhere else like australia/NZ or canada. the countries are more stable, and anyway it is easier to get a visa.

i am not aware of ANY OSPAP student who managed to get a visa to do their pre-reg this year, EXCEPT: those on a spouse visa, those who accepted hospital offers. some are hoping for the review next month to put it back on the shortage list, very unlikely in my own opinion, seeing the number of EU pharmacists being recruited by the multiples on daily basis.

    good luck

Well to make it simple i can only make my pre-registration training only if i am sponsored by someone else i.e relative, family friend, spouse or as you said that to opt for hospital pharmacy.
But what u think Raul, Hospital pharmacy have enough space to cover us apart from UK nationals,EEA pharmaicsts.Man i have made application to RPSGB and now this visa problems.
So hospital pharmacy is our only hope to go for.

very risky mate, not worth the risk trust me! by the time you finish, they may take it off the list, then what would you do? read last week pj! 2000 home students graduating everyyear + 500 EU pharmacists registering with the society every year.
otherwise, how would a profession that historically always been in shortage, is no longer in shortage.

my personal opinion, you can still get a pre-reg at a hospital, but it is highly competitve! remember you will be competing with other 100s of Mpharm international students who want a place at a hospital to secure a visa, and home students as well.
as for EU pharmacists taking hospital posts, never gonna happen, unless the salary goes north by 10K or so.

if you offer hospital pharmacists the same salary as community ones, you would be surprised to see 100s applying for hospital posts, to stay away the bloody prescription factories, annoying customers, stress, and to practice the clinical stuff learned at uni.

Re: Community Pharmacists out of shortage list UKBA

another option is to apply for TIER 1(GENERAL) visa.
    basic requirements:
    1- a MASTER degree
2- earning from the last 12 months, there is a formula to convert it to UK earning and claim points.

i was considering to do this next week, until i found out that the RUBBISH Mpharm (Master of Pharmacy) course, from UK unis, is NOT RECOGNIZED as a Master degree by the home office. Tough....
    unbelievable......
they are gonna hunt you whatever you do, you, as a NON-EU citizens, are the ONLY category subjected to border control. Citizens of Turkey already have easier regulations to let them in, if you check UKBA website, there is a section for Turks only. wait till they join the EU and invade the country, like what the eastern European did, and dream about getting a visa.

    xx

Re: Community Pharmacists out of shortage list UKBA

i was just checking all the options available post pre-reg year, read from down the page, all the way up:

rang home office, and they said contact UK NARIC, tried to explain that they do not deal with UK degrees, they deal with overseas degrees. as if i was speaking to a deaf person ' sorry sir, we can not further assist you, the case workers make decisions on individual applications'.

    Thank you for your reply
all what i am asking is as simple as the following! when you compare degrees with UK equivalents, for pharmacy degree.... what do you compare it with?
simply i am a UK graduate and the only course available to become a pharmacist is the Master of pharmacy course, Mpharm. that's why i found it strange Mpharm course is not LISTEDt under the calculator- courses to claim points for Tier 1( general)..... not sure if you could help here, but i will contact the home office anyway.

    Cheers

    Subject: Master of pharmacy title

    Hello
it was brought to my attention that the course Mpharm ' Master of pharmacy' is not listed under Tier 1(general) to claim the points needed. Bearing in mind that this is the only master degree awarded in the UK, even the name emplies it's a master degree ( a total of 4 years course leading to Mpharm), i find it a bizarre not having the title under the point based system.

as a UK pre-reg pharmacist, with Mpharm degree, could you please confirm to me the reason behind that?
    Regards

Re: Community Pharmacists out of shortage list UKBA

OSPAP will not stop, maybe some unis will no longer provide the course in the future, as there will always be 1- british citizens with a pharmacy degree from a non-EUU country i.e ramroum for example
2- overseas pharmacists on spouse visa
3- overseas pharmacists who do qualify for the tier 1(general) i.e those with a UK salary equivalent to 32K or above, providing evidence for their last 12 months earning, and with a MASTER degree ( again not Mpharm).
