I found the comment by Raoul about British youth offensive. Yes there are problems with the youth but we don't ignore them. We dont have millions of kids on the street. I don't blame people wanting to move here for a better life, to beautiful cities like Leicester, Birmingham and Wolverhampton. I think its a shame though that highly skilled people are leaving areas where their skills are seriously needed.

i said 15% of the youth, it's sad but true.
my whole point regarding this issue was, overseas pharmacists contribute more than the average British citizen of this country, just like the remaining British pharmacists, and they do not waste millions of pounds on abusing drugs/claiming benefits(anyways we are not allowed to claim any benefits)...etc
simply they work and pay around 12K/years as income tax, plus not allowed to work part-time (work permit = work full time i.e can not locum) and do not deserve to be blamed for rising unemployment because simply they are occupying posts that the market needs or occupying posts that other pharmacists are refusing to take.

If you want a US visa for work the employer has to prove that they cant get an American to fill the job. However, if you want to go to Australia certain professions like nurses get a fast track visa. Its all supply and demand. Can any pharmacist on here honestly say that imigration has affected their ability to get a job? The RPSGB does a census have they picked anything up?

hmm, i'm sure alot of other people would agree 100%, so Johnep has used 18 words in the post, call it 20, 10% of that would be 2 words, so which 2 words dont you agree with Asterix?

Because the vet profession in other cultures is not considered as good as pharmacy.

eh?
If a comparison of contribution is to mean anything (and I doubt that it does) the comparison should be between the contributions of overseas and british pharmacists.
and they do not waste millions of pounds on abusing drugs
You fail to see addiction as a chronic illness - once you accept that it is - then it becomes a comparison of costs of treatments. Cost of addiction treatment cf diabetes for asians cf sickle cell anaemia treatment for Afro-carribeans - cost of TB, Aids, HIV treatment.

An ethnic, racial, genetic difference in the prevalence of a disease is not an argument that I am prepared to go along with as a reason for exclusion is not a route I want to go down.

Or from a different viewpoint
Undercutting UK pharmacists
Enabling contractors worst tendencies to under-staffed and under-resourced, high pressure and heavy handed practices by
occupying posts that other pharmacists are refusing to take.
Most of this is rubbish.

But the last bit does bother me - however that's probably my old age getting the better of me - empirical evidence such as the Which report would seem to indicate that larger contractors deliver better care than the smaller contractors - so maybe the pressure works.

Yeah - those immigrants are all younger and sexier than me - and young and sexy sells ;-)

Come to think of it everybody is younger and sexier than me (with the possible exception of John H)

Re: Opportunities for pharmacist

Hi,

It seems this topic has taken different directions. Any how, I my opinion irrespective of nationality, race or religion a competent professional has right to work any where in the world. If he/she is not capable, nobody will entertain.
