Been doing abit of reading around this subject now and yes it appears the even UK pharmacists have to sit the English as a Foreign Language exam which I think is abit silly.
Does anyone know if you apply for FPGEC using an Access Course as your
    "5th" year instead of alevels???

Yeah! English as understood by the Americans has many different spellings and pronounciations. They give different meanings to words. Eg 'fairy' in england is a brand of soap. in the US a 'fairy' is something altogether different.

I don't see why a UK pharmacist should be exempt from the English exam when the RPSGB does not exempt UK citizens (trained abroad) or Australian/New Zealand/American pharmacists from the IELTS. An IELTS at level 7 from the past two years no less. You are onlty excempt if you are from a EU country.

Any how as far as I can tell these tests are not easy to fail if you speak English and do a practice run to learn the format.

Re: Wanting to go USA, FPGEC problem

I am Scottish and English is my mother tongue. I have the FPGEC and had to sit the TOEFL and TSE(Test of spoken English) for FPGEE certification. Incidentally I had to sit the TOEFL in Dublin!!!

    I got in because I had a 4 year degree pre-2001.

The pharmacy degree in Scotland has always been 4 years, I wonder if the authorities would favour Scottish "Highers" as the extra years although they are not "A" levels?

Re: Wanting to go USA, FPGEC problem

Does anyone have personal experience where NABP/FPGEC denied pre-reg as part of pharmacy curriculum? I was looking at many US pharmacy school websites and the 4th yr of pharmD curriculum is equivalent to pre-reg in UK. Any thoughts either way?

Have a look at the pharmacy section of studentdoctornetwork. There is a link somewhere on this forum.
