    Sharps Disposal

My wife had a knee operation and is on daily self injected LMWH for six weeks. She was told by the hospital to go to the GP for a replacement and disposal, Surgery issued script for new box but refused to take the full one and told her to take it to the council. They also refused. I thought of taking to a NEEDEX chemist and pose as an addict. What is the correct routine?
Was tempted to just put in the black bag.

In the Highlands and Grampian at least you would be able to take it to a pharmacy offering needle exchange. I hope that they would not ask if you were an addict! The health boards would far rather returns to a needle exchange than any other means of disposal.

Well, I thought the surgery was supposed to take them, tbh.

Another question springs to mind, where do the diabetics sharps bin go for disposal?

In our area, it is the borough council (we got the phone number from their website) - also found this useful to read:

Pharmacies used to have the national contract (in England, at least) for accepting sharps, but the GPs pinched it. (or outbid, or cheated, or whatever verb I'd get away with) They HAVE to accept the sharps bins, it's part of their contract, and they may not refuse.

Considering a pharmacy deals with waste disposal, the pharmacy should get it back! I feel a notion of hierarchical supremacy!
