Re: RPS discussion on the Health and Social Care Bill

Pharmacy has always been a weakly represented profession. Unfortunately we are too reliant on the whims of the bigger professions to spread our corn on the ground for us to peck at. We have a small voice and would never take a stand like the dentists did regarding the NHS as we would instantly put ourselves out of a job.

Yes, I'd love the RPS to engage and get some value (professionally) out of this horlicks of a bill (which will lead to the slow death of the NHS as it stands), but I cannot recall any lobbying or pressure applied by Pharmacy that resulted in a positive outcome from Government. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The Bill needs to be dropped and ALL providers of NHS services involved in discussions on how the NHS can evolve and maximise the revenue it gets. Not a private US firm with questionable motives for its recommended outcomes

I can comprehend pharmacy having a weak voice, even public perception of us is feeble. But we are not even present sitting as back benchers BBC News - Andrew Lansley heckled by June Hautot in NHS protest

ha ! and the RPSGB thinks we're going to get more respect as aprofession from this Bill, no-one involbved even aknowledges we exist. Probaly just seen as shopkeepers/supermarkets... for some unknown reason. Maybe its because a lot of pharmacies are to be found between breadcounters and delis these days

    We just don't get mentioned!!!

Would it be so hard for the RPS to represent its members even if it only gave a middling response. "The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is determined to work with the government for the benefit of patients and the public but would welcome reassurance on ... " fill in yourselves.

I may need to try to persuade them. I may need get more involved. I may need help from you guys!

Big debate going on on the RPS website ( www.rpharms.com ) BTW.
