extemp dispensing

hello

I am doing module 4 of my NVQ3 and it has asked foe me to give an example of extemporaneous dispensing and endorse the prescription correctly. reaaaaly stuck of this one as we do not really any extemp dispensing in the pharmacy i work in. Any suggestions on what i could use and how to endorse...

Just tell them no extemp and how you would order from a specials lab. As I have said before, the course is long out of date and not
fit for purpose.

Thanks ever so much for your quick reply.

It says to give an example of extemp or a specials item. And then endorse the script correctly but it gives lots of info in the module book on how to endorse an extemp and not a specials order. I was thinking of making an extemp up but it has to be real examples and me and the pharmacy have to sign to say it has been taken from a real prescription.

what is the correct way to endorse a specials item? endorse with the price on invoice and any postage and packing prices? Extemp is so simple u just endorse ED.

Another technician in my branch said that they take antibiotic liquids as extemp but there is no info on that in my module book either!!

Yes that would do, just about the extent of any extemp prep left now. trust you have a measuring cylinder rather than cone measure. i boght a 100ml measure especially for this when a locum. They come from nekem.

But in the drug tariff it says not liquids that just need reconstituting.. therefore not liquid abx. Guna go for giving an example of a special. Think you just have to write "DNG" on those and any out of pocket expenses. Is this correct?

Yes, its the supplier, pack size, trade price, DNG, then any OOPEs.

It was explained to us that the reason the extemp disp remains in the course is that many techs work in manufacturing units or in industry. In order to give everyone a fair chance at jobs after the course everyone covers the same areas so no-one has an advantage over the other applicants. Makes sense to me as you can't guarantee that you will only work in retail.

Besides is it really a good thing to simply cover what you do in your own job? Do you not benefit from a broader curriculum which gives you a broader knowledge base and an understanding of what happens in other areas?

If you only teach what people NEED to know then you could chuck out 99% of the national curriculum and just teach some kids to fill in benefit forms and how to be a couch potatoe.

As 'kids' was multiple it was meant to read 'how to be couch potatoes.' I added 'a' and missed off 's'. But that's life, I guess. Shit happens.
