HELP blacklisted - monographs - NVQ course

Please can someone help me out.

I am on module 4 on my NVQ course and it is talking about blacklisted items and how doctors can sometimes get around prescribing them by if they prescribe them as a generic and they have a monograph such as BP in their name then they can be dispensed.

The example in my book is Anthisan Cream. This is blacklisted. But it says if the doctor prescribes mepyramine cream then it can be dispensed as mepyramine cream has a monograph BAN entry, where do i find this information. As mepyramine cream is not listed in the BASIC PRICE section of the drug tariff and it is not listed in the BNF so how do you find out whether drugs have a monograph??

This is really bugging me, totally confused the hell out of me.

Can someone explain this to me???

    Thanks in advance

Basically you rely on your PMR to give you the right information.
Assume that the people who enter the data follow these things up - I've heard from a colleague who asked that they do just that.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

The British Pharmacopoeia will tell you if it has a BP BAN or rINN.
Not all pharmacies have a copy any more.
