    Angry RP -- Two Pharmacists

    Hi All,

Quick questions, when 2 pharmacists work in a Pharmacy and one of them signs in as the RP then

    1. Who is responsible for MURs, NMS, etc etc services ??

    2. If the second pharmacist takes some clinical decisions and gives advices, who is responsible for any adverse outcomes of these advices ???

    3. Does the RP changeover/ signout if he has to spend time with patients in consultation room (MURs etc and Private consultations) and not in the dispensing area ?? will the second pharmacist have to sign in and become the RP during these times ???

This silly regulation is full of confusions :'(

    Any thoughts ?????

    PSNC Guidelines and some FAQs.

Responsible Pharmacist · Regulations · PSNC

Based on the information in this link I would say that the Pharmacist who has signed in as RP is ultimately responsible for all aspects of the pharmacy contract.

As for your third question, I would say no, they do not have to sign out/sign in as long as they remain on the registered pharmacy property!

Give the link a read anyway ^^^

I read all the relevent documents before posting here. Thats why I had mentioned what a confused legislation in place. I wanted the opinions of fellow pharmacists so I can reply to the concerned people on the regulations Thanks anyway.

Ahhh ok. Maybe you could answer a question for me!:

I've always wondered, do hospitals have one responsible pharmacist? because that would be ALOT of responsibility!

    HAHAHAHA

There seems to be no regulations on Hospital Pharmacists, may be since the superindetant pharmacist is already there present in the hospital premises and may be he is signing in as the RP ??? or may be because Hospital pharmacists are not involved in direct interactions with the patients for any advices ???? Possibly the OPD Pharmacy may still have this rule of a RP to be signed in as they are in direct touch with the patients ???

As I told you, stupid and confusing regulation, with lots of unanswered questions. Who to blame???? The earstwhile RPSGB and not the GPhc, as the GPhC has just taken over all regulatory roles put in place by the RPSGB. And the new RPS if fighting against these regulations what a great place to practice as a Pharmacist

Pharmacists who are ward based do not necessarily fall under the bracket of "responsible pharmacists" - it would usually be the pharmacist who is dispensary based who signs in as RP.
