    Unhappy Can anyone help?

Am I just being thick? ... the answer is probably YES! but I have a question about INR.
What is the target INR for this patient? He is 56, overweight and a heavy smoker. He is taking warafarin 3mg and 1mg as directed, ramipril 2.5mg 1 bd, furosemide 40mg 1 om, GTN 500mcg 1prn.

Q: What is patients target INR? Don't I have to know what he's taking warfarin for? Are targets not determined by whats being treated or is there a standard dose?

    Please help!!!

The target INR depends on what the warfarin is being taken for. Different indications have different ranges. Generally it would be in the range 2-3, except for those with mechanical prosthetic heart valves where it would be higher.

And those who have a DVT/PE whist on warfarin have an increased target.

Cheers Nik ... thought it was something along those lines. The question is ridiculously random as they dont give enough info on patient's condition and it would seem I have to surmise.
