    Latest Pharmaceutical Journal

The PJ is being sent to all those who are not currently registered and my copy arrived yesterday.
    Some points
    1) Advert says 'hindi/urdu speaking would be an advantage'. Surely this is in contravention of the Race Relations Act? Remember the Dr who advertised for a Scot receptionist and fell foul of the law?
2)In the recruitment section ' This will facilitate efforts to win business, improve succession planning, and increase cost efficiencies through more effective performance management'
Ie we can bully staff more than locums

3)'Even salaries 10% lower than the previous salary paid for the same position are not uncommon' . 10% less this year and a further 10% reduction year on year?

    4) ' For pharmacy graduates seeking pre reg training, a reduction in the number of vacant places is bad news' Soon we will have an increasing number of would be pre regs in limbo. Particularly as the same article mentions new crops from Reading and Hertfordshire. The outlook is bleak for would be pharmacists. Wait years for an opportunity to have a pre reg place, then fail the exam three times and have spent perhaps 6-8 years wasting time and building up huge debts they can never repay. An employer is far more likely to chose a new graduate over someone unable to get a place for a couple of years.

No wonder a Forum member felt she could not promote pharmacy to schools, and another gave the true picture at a recruitment fair.

    1) No it's not because it doesn't specify a particular race. Anyone can learn hindu or urdu.
    2) Sound s like BS jargon to me.....
    3) I don't think this is uncommon in any business at the moment but only relates to the first year. You would expect inflationary increases each year. It does lead to some people being paid less for the same job.
    4) This is a real problem who is responsible for ensureing that pre reg places are available. It's crazy that Universities can take you 9K each year but still can't guarantee that passing their course will lead to a qualification. Increasing numbers of Pharmacists leads to the problems in number 3 due to supply and demand.
