how do you dispose of them ? Do you rinse and put in the recycling/rubbish, do you remove labels first, or do you save them up into an ever growing mountain of waste that can't be disposed of if you follow every ones advice ?

Rinse them out and put them in general waste. I don't see the problem with this?
Supervised -- Remove label and shred/ dispose to save identity of the patient, then rinse the bottle if any evidence of leftover and dispose the bottle in general waste. (in practice many just throw it in the general waste)
Physeptone -- use till the last drop, rinse, try to remove the lable on the bottle then discard in the general waste. (in reality just confirm no methadone remains in the bottle, throw it in the bin)

p.s: The above are not what I follow, I always follow what is said in the MEP and the SOP of the Pharmacy where I work.
just wondering as I've always just got last drop out , rinsed and recycled. But on our last inspection visit the inspector said no methadone should go down the sink . Since then another colleague has been advised by a different inspector that the bottles should have label removed - from stock bottle- to prevent them from being used by the public - or something similarly paranoid.
as a locum i see different things at different pharmacies...my advice..check with pct
According to DoH guidance: liquid CD should be denatured, bottle placed in a waste container for incineration.
ha! I've never seen the original source, but thats what i'd pieced together as official ( ludicrous) advice.
So.... to rephrase the original question.... who rinses their bottles out, pouring the rinsings into an expensive denaturing kit, then saves all the bottles up and pays for them to be incinerated ?
can it not be denatured with washing up liquid?
